"But this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus."
Today many family and friends will say "Happy New Year!" to each other as they hug one another. No doubt, it is a special festive time for many who celebrate the coming New Year. Sadly, for many it is just another excuse to party it up with their family and friends in getting either drunk or high on drugs. To others, it will be a time of reflection on the past year as they plan to make resolutions to make changes in their lives for the coming New Year. As good as that sounds, such New Year resolutions never last. Why? Because we are creatures of habit, not of change. Change requires work, because it takes work to change the areas in our lives that we want to see changed. The fact that it takes such work to change, we eventually slip back into our old habits and ways of doing things. Hence, we get frustrated over the fact that our New Year resolutions elude us. The Bible does not teach us to make such resolutions we cannot keep, but the Word of God does requires us to change. So how is positive change in our life possible? Well, let us consider some obsticles to change and how we can overcome them. (see Phil. 3: 13-14; Hebrews 12: 1).
1. We Need to Forget our Sins of the Past Year and Embrace the New Year!
2. We Need to Forsake Laziness and Embrace a Disciplined Way of Life!
3. We Need to Follow the Lord by Embracing Obedience to His Will!
4. Change is Forseeable if we are Willing to Change!
